You Don't Have to Wait Until It's a Crisis

Mental health support shouldn't only become available when things have reached a breaking point.

You can walk in when:

  • Anxiety, panic, stress or emotions feel overwhelming
  • Something difficult or unexpected has happened
  • You're experiencing grief or loss
  • Trauma or past experiences are affecting you
  • Your child or teenager is struggling
  • Your relationship is hurting
  • Your family needs support
  • You're struggling with addiction or substance use
  • You're feeling overwhelmed by parenting, work, school or life
  • You've been holding everything together for too long
  • You simply need a safe place to talk

You do not need a diagnosis.

You do not need a referral.

And you do not need to be experiencing a mental health emergency.

If it matters to you, it matters to us.

How Does Walk-In Counselling Work?

We know walking into a counselling office without knowing what to expect can feel intimidating. We've designed our process to make getting support as simple and welcoming as possible.

1. Just walk in.

Come to our Saskatoon office during walk-in hours. You don't need to book an appointment ahead of time or have a referral.

2. We'll welcome you.

Our team will greet you, help you with the intake process and answer any questions you may have.

You don't need to arrive knowing exactly what to say or what kind of help you need.

3. We'll listen.

You'll meet privately with a trained mental health professional who will take the time to understand what you're experiencing, what is happening right now and what you need.

4. Together, we'll figure out what comes next.

That may mean support in the moment, safety planning, ongoing counselling, additional resources, referrals or simply beginning the work of healing.

5. And when today's appointment is over, our support doesn't have to end.

This is one of the things that makes our walk-in service different.

Whenever possible, you can continue seeing the same counsellor you met during your walk-in appointment.

That means you can keep building the relationship you've already started rather than having to tell your story all over again.

Walk In Today. Continue With Us Tomorrow.

No starting over.

We believe continuity of care matters.

Reaching out for support can take courage. Once you've met a counsellor, shared what's happening and begun building trust, we don't want you to have to start from the beginning with someone new simply because your first appointment was a walk-in visit.

When appropriate and whenever scheduling allows, your walk-in counsellor can become your ongoing counsellor.

You can move from immediate support into ongoing care with someone who already knows your story.

One door. One team. Continued support.

Who Can Use Our Walk-In Mental Health Services?

Our doors are open to people across ages and stages of life.

Adults

Come in when life feels overwhelming, something has happened, you're struggling emotionally or you simply need someone to talk to.

Children & Youth

Parents and caregivers are also welcome to come in when they are concerned about their child and aren't sure what to do next. Children as young as 3 years old, teenagers and young adults can access support through our team.

Couples

Relationships don't always struggle conveniently around a scheduled appointment.

Couples can walk in for support when communication has broken down, conflict has escalated, trust has been hurt, something significant has happened or they need help figuring out their next steps.

Families

Families can access walk-in counselling together or receive support individually when something is affecting the family as a whole.

Walk-In Addiction & Recovery Support

You don't have to have recovery figured out before asking for help.

If you are concerned about your alcohol or substance use—or you're worried about someone you love—you can walk in and talk with our team.

Our counsellors can help you explore what's happening, identify immediate needs and begin developing a path forward.

Depending on your circumstances, support may include assessment, recovery planning, counselling, family involvement, connection with additional resources and ongoing follow-up.

You can start with one conversation.

Frequently Asked Questions About Walk-In Counselling

Do I need an appointment?

No. You can come to Stick & Stone during our walk-in hours without booking ahead.

Do I need a doctor's referral?

No.

You don't have to wait until things become unbearable before reaching out.

If something is affecting your mental health, relationships, family or ability to cope with everyday life—or you simply need someone to talk to—you are welcome to come in.

Can my child or teenager use walk-in counselling?

Yes. We provide services for children as young as three years old, as well as youth and teenagers.

Parents and caregivers can also walk in to discuss concerns about their child and get help determining what kind of support may be appropriate.

Can couples walk in?

Yes. Couples can access our walk-in counselling services without scheduling an appointment in advance.

Can families walk in?

Yes. We work with individuals, couples and families and can help determine the best way to support everyone involved.

What happens when I arrive?

Our team will welcome you and help you complete the intake process. You'll then be connected with a mental health professional who can listen to what's happening, assess what support you need and help determine next steps.

How long will I have to wait?

We work to connect walk-in clients with support as promptly as possible. Because walk-in demand can vary throughout the day, wait times may vary.

Can I keep seeing the counsellor I meet?

Yes, whenever possible.

Continuity of care is an important part of our walk-in model. If you'd like ongoing counselling after your walk-in visit, we will work to help you continue with the same counsellor whenever availability and your care needs allow.

You shouldn't have to keep starting over.

What does walk-in counselling cost?

Our regular counselling fees apply to walk-in appointments. We understand that cost and coverage can be an important part of deciding whether to reach out for support.

Stick & Stone Counselling Services works with a wide range of insurance providers and funding programs, and financial support options may be available for eligible clients.

We never want you to assume that you cannot access support because of finances. Please ask us about your options.

What If I Don't Know What Kind of Help I Need?

That's okay.

You don't need to know what type of therapy you need, which counsellor you should see or even exactly how to describe what you're experiencing.

That's part of what we're here to help you figure out.

Come in. Tell us what's happening.

We'll listen, ask questions and help you determine what support may be helpful.

You Matter Here.

Sometimes the hardest part is taking the first step through the door.

When you do, we want you to know that you'll be met with kindness, dignity and respect.

You don't have to have everything figured out.

You don't have to know what to say.

And you don't have to wait until things get worse.

Need someone to talk to today?
