A Journey of Healing, Strength, Culture & Reconnection 🧡
You are more than what happened to you. Your story matters. Your voice matters. And you deserve to be heard.
Healing from sexual trauma is a deeply personal journey. It is not always linear, and there is no single path forward. Every woman carries her own experiences, emotions, strengths, and hopes for the future. At Stick & Stone Counselling Services, we believe that every woman deserves a safe, compassionate space where she can feel heard, respected, supported, and empowered to heal at her own pace.
We are honoured to introduce Reclaiming Our Voices, a five-session therapeutic support group that brings together trauma-informed counselling, Indigenous cultural teachings, creativity, and meaningful connection.
Facilitated by Madison Nienaber, Registered Social Worker, alongside a respected community Elder, this program provides a welcoming and supportive environment for women who have experienced sexual trauma to explore healing, reconnect with their strengths, and begin reclaiming their voices.
Through the meaningful process of creating a traditional ribbon skirt, participants will have the opportunity to honour their individual journeys while exploring themes of resilience, identity, self-expression, and personal empowerment.
This is more than a support group. It is an opportunity to be reminded that you are not defined by what happened to you, that your experiences deserve compassion, and that healing does not have to happen alone.
Weaving Together Healing, Culture & Connection
Throughout this five-session journey, participants will be invited to engage in a unique therapeutic experience that combines emotional support, cultural connection, and hands-on creativity.
The traditional ribbon skirt holds deep cultural significance within many Indigenous communities, often representing identity, strength, resilience, and connection to culture and community.
With guidance from a community Elder, participants will learn about the cultural meaning of ribbon skirts while creating something that reflects their own personal journey.
Each stitch offers an opportunity for reflection. Each gathering creates space for connection. And each participant is encouraged to honour her experiences in a way that feels meaningful and comfortable to her.
There is no expectation to share personal details of your trauma. You are always welcome to participate at your own pace, with your emotional safety, dignity, and personal boundaries respected throughout the process.
What Can You Expect From This Program?
Our goal is to create a compassionate, trauma-informed environment where women feel safe to explore healing, discover their strengths, and connect with others who may understand aspects of their journey.
Throughout the program, participants will have opportunities to:
🧡 Find Connection & Understanding
Healing can sometimes feel isolating, particularly when the experiences we carry are difficult to put into words. This group provides an opportunity to connect with other women in a welcoming, nonjudgmental environment where understanding, compassion, and mutual respect are encouraged.
🧡 Reclaim Your Voice & Personal Strength
Sexual trauma can affect a person's sense of safety, identity, confidence, and control. Through supportive therapeutic conversations and meaningful activities, participants will be encouraged to reconnect with their voices, recognize their strengths, and explore what empowerment means to them.
🧡 Honour Culture, Identity & Tradition
Under the guidance of a community Elder, participants will explore the cultural significance of traditional ribbon skirts and engage in a meaningful creative process that honours Indigenous knowledge, teachings, and traditions.
🧡 Build Resilience & Self-Compassion
Healing is not about forgetting what happened or expecting yourself to move forward before you are ready. It is about learning to extend compassion toward yourself, recognizing the strength it has taken to arrive where you are today, and discovering supportive ways to navigate the journey ahead.
🧡 Experience Healing Through Creativity
Sometimes, the things we carry are difficult to express through words alone. Creating a traditional ribbon skirt offers a hands-on opportunity for reflection, self-expression, and connection. Participants will be invited to explore the meaning they wish to weave into their creations while honouring their personal experiences and hopes for the future.
A Safe Space to Heal at Your Own Pace
We understand that participating in a sexual trauma support group can feel like a significant step.
You may feel hopeful, nervous, uncertain, or a combination of many emotions. Whatever you are feeling, we want you to know that you are welcome.
You do not need to tell your story before you are ready.
You do not need to explain or justify your experiences.
You do not need to have all the answers.
And you certainly do not need to navigate healing on your own.
Our facilitators are committed to creating a trauma-informed, respectful, and supportive group environment that honours each participant's individual needs, boundaries, and lived experiences.
You deserve to feel safe. You deserve to feel supported. And you deserve to have your voice heard.
