Understanding Is Just the Beginning. We're Here for What Comes Next.

Sometimes, finding answers can change everything.

Perhaps your child is struggling in school despite their best efforts. Maybe you've noticed differences in attention, learning, communication, or development. Or perhaps, as an adult, you've spent years wondering why certain experiences have always felt more challenging.

At Stick & Stone Counselling Services, we're here to help you better understand yourself or your child's unique strengths, challenges, and needs.

Our Assessment Services

Our Registered Psychologist provides comprehensive psychological assessments and diagnostic services for children ages 6+ and adults ages 18+, including:

  • ADHD Assessments: Exploring attention, impulsivity, executive functioning, and everyday challenges.

  • Specific Learning Disorders, Including Dyslexia: Identifying learning differences involving reading, writing, mathematics, and academic functioning.

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder Assessments: Exploring developmental patterns, communication, sensory experiences, and individual support needs.

  • Intellectual Disability Assessments: Understanding cognitive abilities and adaptive functioning.

  • Giftedness & Twice-Exceptional Assessments: Recognizing exceptional strengths alongside learning or developmental differences.

  • Secondary Mental Health Concerns: Exploring emotional and psychological factors that may influence learning, attention, and functioning.

When Might an Assessment Be Helpful?

An assessment may be worth exploring when:

  • A child is struggling academically despite receiving additional help.

  • Teachers or caregivers have noticed differences in learning, attention, or development.

  • Organization, concentration, memory, or completing tasks feels consistently difficult.

  • Social communication, sensory experiences, or developmental differences raise questions.

  • An individual demonstrates exceptional abilities alongside unexpected challenges.

  • A family is seeking greater clarity to help guide educational or everyday supports.

  • An adult wants to better understand longstanding patterns or difficulties.

You don't need to know exactly what you're looking for. That's part of why we're here.

What to Expect

Every assessment begins with understanding the individual.

Depending on the assessment, the process may include an initial consultation, background information, questionnaires, standardized assessment measures, and conversations with relevant caregivers or professionals when appropriate.

Following the assessment, findings and recommendations are discussed to help you understand the results and consider the next steps.

Our goal is to make the experience as comfortable, respectful, and informative as possible.

Your Support Doesn't Have to End With a Report

A diagnosis or assessment report can provide valuable insight, but we recognize that it may also raise new questions.

What supports are available? What should we share with the school? How can we make everyday life easier? Where can we find resources?

Our Learning & Disability Support team can help you explore educational strategies, counselling, family guidance, funding resources, and other relevant services.

We want you to leave with more than answers. We want you to know where to turn next.

Let's Find the Answers Together

Whether you're considering an assessment for yourself or your child, our team is happy to answer questions and help you explore the process.
