Resilient Hearts

Moms Support Group for Mothers of Children with Diverse Needs in Saskatoon

Because even the strongest moms need somewhere to feel supported.

You love your child more than words can express. You celebrate their victories, advocate for their needs, recognize their strengths, and stand beside them through challenges that others may never fully understand.

But behind that love and dedication, there is often a mother carrying more than anyone realizes.

The appointments. The paperwork. The school meetings. The therapies. The constant advocating. The sleepless nights. The worry about the future. The emotional exhaustion that can come from trying to make sure your child has everything they need.

And somewhere in the middle of caring for everyone else, you may find yourself wondering:

Who is looking after me?

At Stick & Stone Counselling Services, we recognize that raising a child with diverse needs can bring unique joys, meaningful experiences, and challenges that are difficult to navigate alone.

That's why we created Resilient Hearts, an in-person moms support group in Saskatoon specifically designed for mothers raising children with neurodivergence, disabilities, developmental differences, and additional support needs.

A place where you don't have to explain everything.

A place where other mothers understand.

A place where you can simply be yourself.

Because you deserve support, connection, and care, too.

A Place Where You Don't Have to Carry It All Alone

There is something incredibly comforting about being surrounded by women who understand your experiences without needing a lengthy explanation.

Mothers raising children with diverse needs often become advocates, researchers, coordinators, caregivers, and problem-solvers, all while navigating the everyday responsibilities of family life.

You may find yourself celebrating milestones that others take for granted, fighting for resources that should be easier to access, or feeling misunderstood by people who haven't walked a similar path.

You might experience moments of incredible joy alongside feelings of exhaustion, isolation, frustration, or uncertainty.

And sometimes, you may feel guilty for acknowledging just how difficult it can be.

At Resilient Hearts, we want you to know that you can love your child wholeheartedly and still acknowledge that some days are hard.

Both can be true.

This group was created to provide a welcoming, compassionate environment where mothers can connect, share experiences, encourage one another, and find comfort in knowing they are not alone.

You don't have to be strong every moment.

You don't have to have all the answers.

And you don't have to navigate every challenge on your own.

What Can You Expect?

Resilient Hearts is designed to bring mothers together through meaningful conversation, shared understanding, and genuine connection.

Our group offers opportunities to:

  • Connect with mothers who understand: Build relationships with women navigating similar experiences, challenges, and responsibilities.

  • Share your experiences without judgment: Talk openly about the joys, frustrations, worries, and victories that come with raising a child with diverse needs.

  • Explore caregiver stress and emotional well-being: Recognize the impact of ongoing caregiving responsibilities and the importance of supporting your own mental health.

  • Navigate feelings of isolation and overwhelm: Find encouragement and understanding from mothers who know how lonely this journey can sometimes feel.

  • Reconnect with yourself: Make space for your own identity, emotions, needs, and interests beyond your role as a caregiver.

  • Celebrate the little victories: Share moments of hope, progress, laughter, and encouragement with others who understand their significance.

  • Build a supportive community: Develop meaningful connections that remind you that you don't have to walk this journey alone.

There is no pressure to share more than you feel comfortable sharing.

Whether you arrive with a story to tell, questions to ask, or simply a desire to sit alongside women who understand, you are welcome here.

Who Is Resilient Hearts For?

If you are raising a child with diverse needs and longing for connection, this group was created with you in mind.

Resilient Hearts welcomes mothers raising children with a wide range of experiences and support needs, including:

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

  • Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

  • Learning disabilities and developmental differences

  • Intellectual or physical disabilities

  • Sensory processing differences

  • Emotional regulation and behavioural support needs

  • Complex medical or ongoing health needs

  • Mental health challenges

  • Children who are awaiting assessment or diagnosis

  • Children who require additional educational, developmental, or community supports

Your child does not need a formal diagnosis for you to attend.

We recognize that every child is unique, every family has its own experiences, and no two parenting journeys look exactly alike.

Whether you are just beginning to explore your child's needs or have spent years navigating support systems, there is a place for you here.

You belong, and your experiences matter.

Caring for the Mother Behind the Caregiving

When you're raising a child who needs additional support, it can feel as though there is always something that needs your attention.

Another appointment to schedule.

Another form to complete.

Another conversation with a teacher, specialist, or service provider.

Another decision to make.

Another night spent wondering whether you're doing enough.

Over time, the ongoing mental and emotional demands of caregiving can contribute to chronic stress, anxiety, exhaustion, and burnout.

Many mothers also experience feelings of isolation, especially when friends or family members struggle to understand their daily realities.

Some experience grief surrounding expectations they once held, uncertainty about the future, or the difficulty of watching their child navigate a world that isn't always designed to meet their needs.

These feelings do not diminish the love you have for your child.

They are part of being human.

At Resilient Hearts, we believe that supporting mothers is an important part of supporting families.

You matter beyond what you do for others.

Your emotional well-being deserves attention.

Your voice deserves to be heard.

And your needs deserve to be acknowledged.

Finding Strength Through Connection

Sometimes, what we need most isn't another strategy, appointment, or piece of advice.

Sometimes, we simply need someone to sit beside us and say, "I understand."

Someone who recognizes why a small milestone means so much.

Someone who understands the exhaustion of constantly advocating.

Someone who can celebrate the victories, listen through the difficult moments, and remind us that we are not alone.

Resilient Hearts creates opportunities for mothers to come together, build friendships, share encouragement, and experience the comfort of genuine connection.

Our hope is that you leave each gathering feeling a little lighter, a little more understood, and a little more connected to yourself and others.

You don't need to carry everything alone to be a wonderful mother.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does my child need a formal diagnosis for me to attend?

Not at all. We welcome mothers raising children with diagnosed or suspected developmental differences, neurodivergence, disabilities, or additional support needs. We understand that obtaining assessments and diagnoses can take time, and you deserve support throughout that process.

Is this group only for mothers of autistic children?

No. Resilient Hearts welcomes mothers raising children with a wide variety of needs, including autism, ADHD, learning disabilities, developmental differences, complex medical needs, and other challenges requiring additional support.

What if I feel uncomfortable sharing in a group?

That's completely understandable. Joining a new group can feel intimidating, especially when you're already carrying a lot. You are welcome to participate at your own pace. Listening, connecting, and simply being present are all meaningful ways to take part.

Is this a counselling or therapy group?

Resilient Hearts is a community support group focused on connection, shared experiences, and encouragement. It is not a replacement for individual counselling or mental health treatment.

If you would benefit from additional mental health support, our team at Stick & Stone Counselling Services can help you explore available services.

Do I have to attend all four sessions?

We encourage participants to attend all four sessions whenever possible, as consistency helps create familiarity, trust, and meaningful connections within the group.

How do I register?

A Little Reminder, From Our Hearts to Yours

To the mom who is always advocating.

To the mom who spends her evenings researching, planning, and worrying.

To the mom who celebrates the smallest victories because she knows how much they mean.

To the mom who is exhausted but keeps showing up.

To the mom who sometimes feels invisible behind all the responsibilities she carries.

We see you.

You are more than the appointments you coordinate, the challenges you navigate, and the needs you meet.

You are a person with your own hopes, feelings, dreams, and needs.

You deserve friendship. You deserve encouragement. You deserve moments of rest, laughter, and connection.

And you deserve to be supported, too.

At Resilient Hearts, our hope is that you find a community of women who remind you that you are not alone.

Pain shared is pain divided. Joy shared is joy multiplied.

Come as you are. We would love to save you a seat.
